I do love a bit of slowing down/speeding up time to reveal things you would never see otherwise. Glad you both liked it!

I hope LHC gets relaunched soon, even if nothing else happens. Though there is a huge argument that with the current credit crunch what is the point of spending such huge amounts on such great scientific experiments?

BTW, nice blog! keep it up :)

"Pessimistic perhaps, but we shall see."

We certainly shall. With U.S. research endowments down 30% in some cases, and more state funded UK budgets looking stretched with recruitment freezes on the cards - looks like more losers than winners. That from an optimist.

On Sense about Science should take their own advice on knowing "what they are talking about" Their cited quotes come from NOTORIOUS celebrity professionals !

Classic SAS - they leap to defend soft drinks with no nutritional value, on containing danger chemicals and were actually wrong/misleading in WHO, FDA acceptability etc. The PPM is based on practical technical ability to detect benzene in drinking water NOT safety and NONE is the optimum recommendation.

On CBT read beyond the commercial bias into the harm that has been done and research funding swallowed in dogmatically pursuing this at the cost of the health of patients eg. GW and ME/CFS.

My hypothesis is that your last paragraph explains the entire phenomenon. But, consistent with good scientific practice,I'm prepared to spend the rest of the day trying to falsify it.

The telegraph article actually says both £4.4m and £4.4 billion. Very poor copy editing there.
